Two young men are on their way to the fabled internet celebrity circle. Together they have been defying the odds and even happen to have some stalkers. The duo, Tyler ( Andrew Burdette ) and Robbie ( Dante Singleton ) have fallen into the internet sketch comedy genre and they're damn good at it.
At some point, Robbie received a job offer and Tyler was not invited. Even though Robbie pushed for his friend to also be included, that's not how the cards fell and finally, after much procrastination, Robbie breaks the news after a creepy encounter with some old dude. To say the least, Tyler was crushed and in an attempt to save face, proposed one final sketch; something to be remembered by the fans of the current dynamic duo. It involves a brick and a variation of the classic, Nicky-Nicky-nine-doors. Things don't go as they are supposed to go, and before the duo can even get to the old dude's house, he appears; and things go downhill lightning fast. Robbie is killed, but this is pretty much where Bruh.mp4 begins its real story. It's at this point the film almost completely changes genre, and becomes more of a phycological thriller than a comedy. We learn the true nature of Tyler and Robbies' relationship. We learn of the inner workings of Tyler, and even get a pretty big glimpse into the dynamic between him and his girlfriend. What started as a story about a couple of silly guys making people laugh online, completely switches gears and becomes something totally different. What surprised me about this title is Andrew Burdette's ability to keep its audience holding on, and understanding throughout the film. Even during the later parts of the film where things slow down, the viewer is still pulled into the story. Bruh.mp4 is like watching a monster movie, and not being told its a monster movie until the monster shows up. When it's all over you're kind of like, what just happened? Especially with the way it all ends. But you know what happened, you just can't quite remember when the title completely changed. Bravo. I was also quite happy with the general look and acting of this title. When it comes to micro budget, independent titles you really never know what you're going to get. A lot of times, these types of movies are hard to watch. This film has solid performances from not only the two lead characters, but also the girlfriends and even the shrink. Bruh.mp4 is not a heavily budgeted studio production for sure, but it easily holds its water. If independent is your thing, and even to a point, if it's not, Bruh.mp4 was a brave little film that delivers much more than I thought it would. A worthy addition to almost anyone's watch list; and I'm glad to have had the opportunity to view. |
